SINOPSIS: “EL AURA” narra en primera persona el alucinado viaje de un personaje sin nombre, un taxidermista parco e introvertido con una extraña obsesión para un hombre honesto: durante los últimos años, una y otra vez ha planeado e imaginado los asaltos más perfectos, exitosos siempre a fuerza de una inteligencia que, según él, lo diferencia de lo que pasa allí afuera, la lucha de “tontos contra tontos”: policías y ladrones. Él podría hacerlo mejor que nadie.

Alejado de su hábitat urbano y llevado a los lejanos bosques del sur a compartir una jornada de caza, un trágico accidente lo conecta inesperadamente con la posibilidad de ejecutar un verdadero delito: el asalto a un camión blindado que lleva las ganancias de un casino de la zona. Movido primero por una morbosa curiosidad, y más tarde por una inexorable corriente de acontecimientos, el taxidermista se verá proyectado hacia sus fantasías, armando pieza a pieza un rompecabezas que lo irá encerrando sin remedio.

Y lo hará mientras lucha con su mayor debilidad: es epiléptico. Y experimentará el “aura”: un aviso, un momento de extraña iluminación, una experiencia donde todo se confunde en una arrolladora desorientación, antes de sucumbir a cada una de sus crisis. Crisis que caerán sobre él cuando menos lo espere, cuando más necesite de todos sus sentidos…

Así descubrirá que nada es como creía. Que el crimen es inteligencia y planificación, pero también agallas y sangre. Y violencia, y miedo, y traición… Y se encontrará proyectado a un mundo del cual desconoce las reglas, donde se habla un idioma que no puede entender, atrapado en un torbellino de espanto e irrealidad. Como un aura.

They’re always successful – thanks to his intelligence which, he claims, marks him apart from the idiots-fighting-idiots struggle of cops and robbers. He could carry it off better than anybody else.

Taken away from his urban habitat and transported to the remote forests of the south to take part in a day’s hunting, a tragic accident unexpectedly gives him the chance to commit a real crime: an attack on an armored security truck carrying the takings from a nearby casino. Motivated at first by morbid curiosity, and then carried along by the momentum of events, this taxidermist will be hurled right into his fantasies, and compelled to assemble, piece by piece, a complex jigsaw puzzle of events which will slowly trap him inescapably.

As it does so, he will have to battle against his greatest weakness: he is epileptic. And just before he succumbs to an attack, he will experience the “aura”: both a warning and a moment of strange, almost sublime enlightenment, an experience of utter confusion and overwhelming disorientation. These attacks will come when he least expects it, when most needs to use all his senses..

So he will discover that nothing is as it seemed. That crime requires intelligence and planning, but also involves blood and guts… And violence, and fear, and betrayal. He will find himself thrown into a world where he doesn’t understand the rules, where he can’t understand the language, and where he is trapped in a whirlwind of terror and unreality. Like an ‘aura’.
